Is your laundry area turning into a mess of bottles and supplies? I’ve been there. Get inspired and get tidying with the best, space-saving laundry room organization ideas from all over the internet.
I have a confession to make.
For the longest time, my laundry room was like Monica’s secret-stash-everything-room.
You know, that one room who’s door always stays shut to the general public?
No one but me knew about the horrors that lay beyond.
A cesspool of differently coloured laundry, overflowing, mixing into each other. Empty detergent bottles piling up, toppling over, laundry baskets crushing under the weight of last seasons clothes.
I thought if I kept the mess out of sight, it will cease to exist and stress me out.
Ummm….nope.
It just became a back room of stress inside of my brain. And one day – that stress spilled over into the rest of my brain – and I knew I had to do something.
So I put on my trusty work tracks and went at it.
First, I decluttered. I trashed empty bottles, clothes I never washed because I didn’t really need. Next, I segregated my laundry into different sections of the laundry hamper. Darks, whites, delicates. And finally, I got the right organizers and tools and I organized all my laundry supplies – like detergents, fabric softeners, dryer sheets etc.
It took me a day or two. But, in the end – it felt super-satisfying.
Along the journey of me organizing my laundry room, I stumbled upon some great inspo and ideas. Here are my top picks, my favourite laundry room organization ideas – to save to you space and stress!
Add Wall Shelves for Added Storage
Adding floating shelves in your laundry room is a great way to get more storage – without cluttering your space.
It only takes up wall space and is a great place to store your cleaning supplies and tools.
Segregate Laundry into Baskets with Labels
Separating laundry is one of the fundamantal steps of basic laundry room organization.
You can create different laundry baskets and label them – or opt for a laundry hamper that comes with labels.
Install Storage Cabinets for a Farmhouse Vibe
Storage cabinets are a great way to give your laundry room a chic vibe – while adding to storage.
You can opt for a lovely sage green colour for a modern farmhouse look. Great for storing extra detergent and cleaning supplies.
If you’re the DIY kind – here’s a tutorial on how to build overhead cabinets for your laundry room.
Fix Pegboards and Hooks For More Storage
A pegboard on a wall is a simple yet super functional spot to organize your laundry cleaning supplies.
Just add some hooks and you get a nifty spot for your ironing board, clothes clips and other supplies.
Fix a Collapsible Clothes Drying Rack
This collapsible clothes drying rack is a game-changer for laundry room organization.
It’s wall-mounted, so hardly takes up any space and gets folded in compactly when not in use.
Encourage Kids to do Their Laundry with Dedicated Bins
Absolutely loved this idea from Melissa from So Festive. Designating laundry baskets so kids can learn to do their own laundry (yes it’s possible).
You can learn how to in this article from her here.
Decant Everything in Similar Containers
Decanting everything may be a tad extra – but it does give your laundry room that boujee apothecary vibe.
I like these containers for pods, beads, dryer balls and sheets and these pretty pump bottles for liquid detergent and softener.
Add a Slim Rolling Cart to Create Storage
A slim rolling cart is a great laundry room organization trick, especially if you don’t have too much space.
This one easily slides in between your washer and dryer – and can store a lot of stuff.
When you need something, simply roll it out and then stash it back in when you’re done.
Simple, practical and elegant.
Add a Laundry Rod
Adding a drying rod is another one of those laundry organization ideas that just make so much sense.
You can dedicate a space to hang your delicates without overcrowding your drying rack.
You can DIY and add half a curtain rod, like above or go for this wall-mounted retractable drying rod.
Add a Home for Lost Socks
When it comes to socks, there are always little fellas taking a little road trip on their own.
It’s a super cute and useful idea to dedicate a zone for lost socks – so you can match them up when you find its twin.
Just hang a little basket for lost socks and you’re good to go!
Place a Countertop Over Your Washer/Dryer
Now this is a laundry organization tool I came across recently – and I think this is just pure genius.
These bamboo countertops from Amazon perfectly fit the top of your washer and dryer – giving you the perfect counter for folding laundry and storing supplies.
Magnetic Lint Bin for Quick Clean Ups
Having to walk all the way to the trash can to dump the lint from your dryer can sometimes get annoying.
This nifty little lint bin magnetically snaps on to the side of your dryer so you can easily dump any lint that comes out of it.
Also comes with a brush to clean out the lint catch-all in your dryer.
Hang a Laundry Symbol and Stain Removal Guide
It’s a simple yet useful hack to add laundry symbol and stain removal guide posters in your laundry room.
Great for quick checks and even adds to the put-together vibe of your space.
Save Space with Collapsible Baskets
A collapsible laundry basket is great for quick unloading and can easily be collapsed stashed away on the side of your washer.
Hardly takes up space, super useful – what’s not to like.
So that’s it! Those are some of my favourite laundry organization ideas. Hope you found them helpful!
